What we check on WordPress

Dozens of checks across eight areas, run from inside your site. Here's what goes into the report.

WordPress and server

Your WordPress, PHP and database versions, and the memory your site has to work with.

What's installed, what's out of date, what's unused, and signs that a theme has been pirated or tampered with.

SSL, security headers and common weak spots like an exposed login list. We look at settings; we don't run attack tests.

On Shopify or Webflow we review the site manually. A manual review sees less than an inside check, and we say so in the report.

What you get

A short, readable report, not a 40-page PDF full of jargon. If your site is in good shape, we’ll tell you that too.

If you’d like us to fix what we find, we’ll quote it. If you’d rather do it yourself, that’s completely fine. The report is yours either way.

  • What's wrongIn plain English, not jargon.
  • Why it mattersWhat it could cost you if it's left.
  • What we'd do about itIn priority order.

Why we offer this for free

Most website problems are invisible until they cause a real one: a hack, a crash, or a sudden drop in Google rankings. We’d rather show you what’s actually happening than wait for something to break.

It’s also the fastest way for you to see how we work before spending anything.

What the report tells you

Three possible answers

Look after it

We found no significant issues within the scope of this check. Keep your existing care arrangements in place, or ask us about ongoing care.

Fix it

Specific problems, specific fixes. We list what's wrong, what it would cost to put right, and what can stay as it is.

Rebuild it

Sometimes the changes a site needs are more practical on a new foundation. If the findings point that way, we'll explain what could be repaired, what can be kept and why we recommend starting again. You decide.

Signs a rebuild might make sense

We weigh these together, not one at a time, and explain our reasoning.

  • A theme or plugin that shows signs of being pirated or tampered with, so it can't be trusted or safely updated
  • A PHP version the site can't move past without breaking
  • A page builder that keeps the site slow, even after optimisation
  • A design or structure that's costing you enquiries

Frequently asked questions

A scan from the outside only sees what any visitor sees. 86Tools runs inside WordPress, so it can check your plugins and theme, database housekeeping and your security settings. It’s only installed with your permission, using a login you create for us.

No. We’ll follow up once with the report and, if relevant, a quote. After that, it’s your call whether to continue the conversation.

Then we’ll tell you that, plainly. We’d rather have that conversation than invent problems that don’t exist.

Yes. 86Tools is built for WordPress, so for Shopify and Webflow we review the site manually. It sees less than an inside check, and the report says so.
